(Manila Times, 08/26/2012) Every Filipino has a story to tell. New independent film festival, CineFilipino, seeks to discover and support the best and brightest Filipino filmmakers to give these stories a chance to come alive in the silver screen. PLDT-Smart Foundation, MediaQuest, Studio 5 and Unitel Entertainment officially launched CineFilipino last week at the Cinema 1 of Ali Mall Araneta Center, Quezon City.
With a production grant of P 1.5 million each, CineFilipino offers eight filmmakers-the most number in any festival to date-to receive a seed grant of more than P1 million in support of their respective projects.
CineFilipino serves as a showcase of fresh cinematic works by both aspiring and established filmmakers who best define the human experience through a Filipino perspective. At the press conference, the festival’s organizing committee was represented by Vincent Nebrida of Unitel and Esther Santos of PLDT-Smart Foundation.
The Festival has two categories: the Feature-Length Filmmakers Section and the Shorts Filmmakers Section.
The Feature-Length Filmmakers Section is open to aspiring and experienced filmmakers and producers. Screenplays in this section will be read and evaluated towards the selection of the eight finalists. Each finalist will receive P1.5 million to produce their respective films. Those who want to join must submit their feature-length narrative scripts on or before the deadline of October 8, 2012.
Meanwhile, the Short Filmmakers Section is open to student filmmakers. Only 10 student-filmmakers will make the shortlist for this category. Completed short films must be submitted for this Section between September 19, 2012 and the deadline of December 31, 2012.
Premiere screenings of films under both Feature-Length and Shorts Filmmakers Sections will take place during the CineFilipino Film Festival, which will be held from March 13 to March 19, 2013.
All entries should be sent to CineFilipino Film Festival office at 1196 Pablo Ocampo Extension, corner Zapote Street, Makati City, Metro Manila 1205.
