Held at the Manila Peninsula, the event "Institutions and Development: A Luncheon Conversation with Professor Douglass C. North", was attended by the country's top economists and financial policy makers.
Prof. Douglass C. North won the 1993 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Science (with Robert W. Fogel) "for having renewed research in economic history by applying economic theory and quantitative methods in order to explain economic and institutional change."
PSF chairman, Manuel V. Pangilinan, together with CNaPS officers, welcomed the Nobel Prize winner, and pointed out the need for deeper thinking about the country's long term priorities, "even now while public attention is riveted on pressing issues of the day" .
PSF is one of the major sponsors of the forum, along with the University of the Philippines, the Philippine Economics Society, and the Ronald Coase Institute.
The forum also marked the launching of the CNaPS website, www.cnaps.org.ph, also sponsored by PSF. The website contains policy-related articles and analyses by well-known scholars as well as links to useful data sites and academic institutions. Articles may be downloaded free of charge after a simple registration.
CNaPS is a non-partisan, interdisciplinary and multi-stakeholder community of scholars and committed practitioners dedicated to the collection, organization, and synthesis of the most policy-relevant ideas, both local and global. PSF support for CNaPS is part of the Foundation's program under the field of education.
