Our Work - Education

The PSF believes in investing in our teachers and students through educational programs, grants and partnerships that can help uplift the overall quality of education in the Philippines.

Gabay Guro (Guide Teachers) Program
In coordination with the Managers Club of PLDT (MCI), the Gabay-Guro (Guide Teachers) Program aims to foster the professional development of teachers through scholarship grants, English proficiency and computer literacy trainings. In 2007, 30 teachers have been trained. Under the Gabay Guro Program also, the PSF and MCI give scholarship grants to deserving students taking up Bachelor of Science in Education, major in English, Math and Science. For the school year 2007 – 2008, 15 students from the Philippine Normal University have been recipients of this scholarship grant. Scholars are required to teach in a public school upon graduation in such number of years as they have been scholars of PSF. The whole project is in support of the Department of Education's goal of improving the quality of education in the country.

PSF Educational Grants
Deserving students of PLDT rank and file and supervisory employees, meanwhile, are given financial assistance under the Employees Educational Grant. The Employees Educational Grant is not a scholarship program but a one-time grant which allows the parents of the grantee to use the grant to augment tuition fees, and purchase books and school supplies as they may deem fit. A separate program is currently being planned for deserving students who are children of the Philippine National Police.

MVP Leadership Series and Forum
Named after PLDT and Smart Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan, the MVP Leadership Series aims to offer world-class leadership training and wisdom to young students through lectures by world-renowned experts. One of its activities is the annual MVP Leadership Forum sponsored by PSF in partnership with the Ateneo de Manila University. This annual forum was organized to offer corporate and individual commitment for the nationwide development of youth leaders. On its second year, the annual event is attended by members of the academe and student leaders from different schools. Previous guests have included the former President of Poland Alexander Kwasnievski, Ronald Chan, chairman of Hang Lung Group, a large real estate company in Hong Kong, and Khun Chartisiri Sophonpanich, president of Bangkok Bank.

Support for the Center for National Policy and Strategy (CNAPS)
The PSF likewise supports the Center for National Policy and Strategy (CNaPS), a non-partisan, interdisciplinary and multi-stakeholder community of scholars and influential practitioners dedicated to the collection, organization, and synthesis policy ideas, both local and global. The PSF helped create the organization's website, www.cnaps.org.ph.
