[September 29, 2009/ Manila] -  – The PLDT group of companies including PLDT, Smart, ePLDT and PLDT Smart Foundation, today said that it has given P10 million of aid to victims of Typhoon Ondoy in relief operations that started last Sunday.

Volunteer employees from the PLDT Group are now fanning out to areas hit hard by the typhoon like Marikina, Cainta, Pasig, Malabon, Quezon City, San Mateo and Pampanga to provide much-needed relief goods and medical help.  In addition, a drive for donations of cash, food and clothes was started by the employees.

Doctors and nurses from PLDT and Metro Pacific sister companies Makati Med and Cardinal Santos, were in Marikina yesterday and Cainta today to help the sick.  Smart opened Tawag Centers at each location to supply free calls and charging facilities while Maynilad provided free bottled water.

PLDT also sent helicopters to airdrop food in waterlogged Cainta last Sunday.  In addition, star basketball players from the company’s Talk ‘n Text PBA team and Smart Gilas national team will be joining relief missions this week.

“We are taking an integrated approach to help people, bringing all the resources of our group and building on each other’s strengths,” said Ramon Isberto, spokesperson for PLDT and Smart.@
